While Vogue cover stars can be a bit predictable, we feel like the wild cards are the musicians. We didn’t really see Gwen Stefani’s January cover coming and we definitely didn’t see this coming.
A well-placed source told us that Katy Perry, lover of temporary hair colors, bustier tops, and cartoon-like get ups, has a US Vogue cover in the works. It will be her first cover for the fashion bible.
Perry’s working on a new album now, so perhaps the cover will be timed to its release. There have also been rumors that she’s working on her own clothing line.
And regarding the question of whether Perry is “Vogue” enough, Vogue seems to think so. The pop star has already been featured on Vogue.com twice this year–once for an exclusive inauguration diary and most recently at Coachella. Plus, her style seems to have gotten a tad more refined recently–one example being the Wes Gordon frock she wore to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund event last year. She also covered Teen Vogue last year.
If this is true, it’s safe to say this cover and its accompanying editorial are going to have some pretty interesting fashion and we can’t wait to see what a Vogue-ified Katy Perry looks like. Do you think they’ll indulge her over-the-top sensibility or put her in something uncharacteristically conservative?
I’ve created this fake cover trying to imagine how the cover would look like. What do you think? Would be Vogue brave enough to feature Katy full of colors, or would they try to make her look more “sophisticated”. If it’s true we will see it soon!
We just wanted to give you a head’s up that Katy Perry is up for 2 nominations. Last Friday Night and California Gurls.

Katy Perry is reteaming with pop mastermind Dr. Luke for her new album, and she’s half finished with the followup to 2010′s Teenage Dream. “When I put myself on a timeline, when I tell the record company when I want to release the album, that’s when the race starts,” Perry said yesterday at ASCAP’s I Create Music Expo, as reported by Billboard. “That’s when I put pressure on myself.”
Dr. Luke has produced some of Perry’s biggest hits, including “Teenage Dream,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “E.T.,” “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot n Cold.” Perry is also working Max Martin, Greg Wells, Sia and others on the new record. She described what she likes best about working with her various collaborators.
“[Wells] allows me to vomit words,” Perry said. She continued, “Max and Luke push me the most. As a team we have certain strengths. With Max, it’s melody choices, Luke is production and I’m topline and melody.” Perry also called working with “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream” collaborator Bonnie McKee “like an emotional abuse session” and noted that she presented “Teenage Dream” three times before it was approved for recording.
Perry also said she’s written a new song called “Double Rainbow” with McKee and Greg Kurstin, though she picked “Firework” as “the most important song I’ve written.” She said singing the song last October with a fan with autism was “the most important performance of my career so far.”

Perry said: ‘In less than one week here in Madagascar, I went from crowded city slums to the most remote villages, and my eyes were widely opened by the incredible need for a healthy life – nutrition, sanitation, and protection against rape and abuse – which UNICEF are stepping in to help provide.
‘I am grateful to UNICEF for giving me the opportunity to see first-hand how their programmes make a real difference in children’s lives. Support for UNICEF is saving children, I am a witness to it.’
